A Curious Connection: How a Phone Alarm Awakened My Interest in the Paranormal

My interest in the paranormal began on the morning of a funeral for a close relative for whom I had been caring. I was usually awoken by a phone alarm that rang daily at 6.00am ensuring the regular intake of medications, that I had deleted a week before due to their passing. On the night before the funeral, I had great difficulty sleeping due to a mixture of sadness, regret and self-doubt about whether I had done enough, but alone in my bedroom, as many others have done in similar circumstances, I silently thought, "If you're okay, can you give me a sign?".

The next morning, at 6.00am the alarm on my phone rang, I immediately turned the alarm on the phone off before getting out of bed and then suddenly realised, I had deleted the alarm. It hadn’t rung for over a week. “Had I forgotten to turn it off?” I thought, while inspecting the phone. I checked the alarm schedule on the phone and sure enough, there was no alarm set for that day, a puzzling occurrence, but one that I eventually, shrugged off, attributing it to a likely software glitch.

I rose early the next morning, eagerly waiting to see if the alarm sounded again, only to be met with silence, as with every day for the next month.

The alarm never rang again, and I began to feel conflicted emotions about the issue. Could a spirit have somehow triggered the alarm? It initially seemed ridiculous to me, but an internal debate ensued where I wrestled with various causes, reassuring myself that it was simply a matter of unpredictable technology, but I wasn’t entirely convinced as the timing felt a little too coincidental.

As time passed, I found myself researching more about the world of the paranormal, visiting libraries and online forums, to read of similar unexplained phenomena, many of which resonated deeply with me.

The more I researched, the more my interest in the topic grew. I was increasingly intrigued by the fact that many like me were so readily willing to dismiss these sometimes-extraordinary occurrences by accepting more rational explanations even where they were clearly insufficient. This likewise inspired a deeper interest in UFO’s as I began to feel that the similar longstanding dismissive arguments against these phenomena may also have been accepted a little too easily.

Thus, my interest in exploring the paranormal was ignited by the mundane execution of a phone alarm that, although easily dismissed as a simple software glitch, ultimately opened the door to an extraordinary world I wish to investigate on this blog.
